Mayor Rahm Emanuel Announces More than $1.6 Million in Illegal Drugs Seized in Lawndale

(Chicago, IL) – March 26, 2012. Two gang and narcotics take-downs by Chicago police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, an operation dubbed “Operation Triple Threat,” has snared more than $1.6 million in narcotics on Chicago’s West Side.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel today announced at a press conference that city and federal law enforcement nabbed 35 of the most violent members of the Four Corner Hustlers street gang.

The Chicago Police Narcotics Division also rolled-up a two-month investigation into an active drug market in the Austin police district, charging 15 with drug-related crimes and effectively dismantling the operation which daily generated approximately $7,000.

“This is just the beginning,” said Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy.

“We are going to be addressing gang violence in a new, comprehensive fashion to ensure that Chicago is a safe place to live, work and play for residents of all our communities.”

Operation “Triple Threat” targeted violent gang-related activity in the Harrison police district, dismantling drug markets that were fueling street violence in the neighborhoods, according to McCarthy.
