(Chicago) – An Illinois Tea Party lawmaker has introduced legislation to repeal the state’s new same sex marriage law.
On Tuesday State Senator Kyle McCarter (R-Lebanon) filed the bill, SB 2637, to nullify the law effective immediately.
McCarter’s plan will, under the Democratic-controlled Senate, will go nowhere, but will give Illinois Republicans another black eye, complicating party leaders’ efforts to moderate the party’s image.
Additionally, McCarter’s bill could complicate the Illinois Republican gubernatorial primary as candidates are likely to be put on the spot regarding their position on the legislation.
